Segmental body composition estimated by specific BIVA and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry

•Segmental specific BIVA and DXA provided a consistent evaluation of body composition in both sexes. •In each segment, %FM FFMI, obtained with DXA, were correlated Zsp PA, respectively. •Specific demonstrated to balance the effect size on bioelectrical measurements. Aims The aim this study was analyse association between bioelectric impedance vector analysis (BIVA) dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) assess segmental using as reference technique. Methods sample comprised 50 young active students who practised or played different sports (25 men, age: 24.37 ± 4.79 y; 25 women, 24.32 4.43 y) from National Institute Physical Education Catalonia (INEFC). Anthropometric data (height, weight, arm, waist, calf circumferences) measurements (R, ohm; Xc, ohm) recorded. Body analysed BIVA. used method whole-body, trunk, limbs. percentage fat mass (%FMDXA) fat-free index (FFMIDXA = FFM/length2) calculated. agreement evaluated by depth–depth analysis, two-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlations. Results showed good (F 14.89, p < 0.001) sexes all segments. Specific length (Zsp; i.e. indicative %FM) %FMDXA whole segments, phase angle FFMIDXA, he trunk women only exception. approaches.
